Public lecture „NATO’s Strategic Concept – A Canadian Perspective”

The Latvian Transatlantic Organisation and Embassy of Canada in Latvia in cooperation with the University of Latvia invites to a public lecture of Paul H. Chapin and Colonel Alain-Michel Pellerin (ret.) on „NATO’s Strategic Concept – A Canadian Perspective”. Paul. H. Chapin and Alain-Michel Pellerin are representatives of the Conference of Defence Associations Institute (Canada) that provides research support to the Conference of Defence Associations (CDA) and promote a wider public debate on national security and defence issues.

NATO`s Strategic Concept is a document that outlines Alliances` purpose and its fundamental security tasks in international security environment. At NATO`s Summit in Strasbourg / Kehl 2009, decision was reached to develop a new Strategic concept, that would define NATO`s role in new security environment of second decade of 21st century. For first time NATO`s Strategic concept will comprise views of 28 members of Alliance.

Lecture will take place on September 10, from 10:30 till 12:00 at Mazā Aula in the main building of the University of Latvia (Raiņa blv. 19).

Lecture is part of series of public lectures and discussions that introduces wider public to topics covered in the Rīga Conference 2010 that will take place in Riga on September 10-11. This year, alongside the number of foreign and defence ministers, recognized academics, diplomats and experts the President of Poland H. E. Mr. Bronisław Komorowski will join the three presidents of the Baltic states – H.E. Mr. Valdis Zatlers (Latvia), H.E. Mrs. Dalia Grybauskaitė (Lithuania) and H.E. Mr. Toomas Hendrik Ilves (Estonia) at the Rīga Conference 2010 to discuss the regional cooperation in the shadow of the economic crisis.

The Rīga Conference 2010 is organized by the Latvian Transatlantic Organisation (LATO) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and the Ministry of Defence of Latvia as well as supported by the the German Marshall Fund of the United States, NATO, Soros Foundation – Latvia, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, European Commission Representation in Latvia and the Embassy of the United States in Riga, Informative support is ensured by LETA, DELFI un Latvijas Avīze.
